Portfolio of Investments
Sciens Water Opportunities Fund launched in 2018 to make control investments in private companies that address major challenges facing U.S. water infrastructure.
Presented below are historical and current investments of Sciens Water.
Central States Water Resources is a regulated water and wastewater utility, headquartered in St. Louis, MO, that specializes in acquiring small, non-compliant systems and rehabilitating them to meet modern environmental and regulatory standards.
Under Sciens’ ownership, CSWR rapidly expanded from a regional operator into a national leader, growing its customer base across multiple states and establishing itself as one of the leading private water utility platforms in the country.
The company addresses critical infrastructure needs by investing capital into failing water/sewer systems and enhancing their operations so that customers receive high-quality service. CSWR has successfully brought hundreds of utilities into regulatory compliance, dramatically improving public health and environmental outcomes in the communities it serves.
Integrated Water Services, Inc. is a turn-key, decentralized water and wastewater treatment solutions provider with expertise in advanced treatment and reuse technologies for both municipalities and industrial clients.
The company is active across the western U.S. With Sciens’ support since acquisition, IWS has completed several strategic add-on acquisitions and evolved from a small construction and services company into a fast-growing single key solution provider in the middle market.
Sciens considers IWS a leading integrator of treatment plants utilizing the leading technologies capable of meeting the strictest environmental standards for small and medium-sized communities, where there is both growing demand for advanced wastewater treatment and a highly fragmented, localized market of participants.

Water-As-A-Service
Sciens Water, through Water-As-A-Service, installs and maintains essential infrastructure under an “infrastructure-as-a-service” business model that provides off balance sheet financing to municipalities, schools, hospitals, industrial or other customers.
Projects include maintaining and building essential infrastructure, such as installations of smart water meters, water treatment plants, and projects aimed at optimizing water usage.
Sustainability Partners (SP), a Public Benefit Company founded in 2016 and headquartered in Chandler, Arizona, partners with customers to provide reliable, safe and improving essential infrastructure.
SP facilitates funding, deployment, and ongoing care of essential infrastructure to help Municipalities, Universities, Schools, and Hospitals (MUSH) meet their needs.
SP offers an alternative to the traditional capital expenditure model. Instead of a large upfront cost, SP provides reliable, safe, and improving essential infrastructure through a month-to-month usage-based utility-like service (“infrastructure-as-a-service”).
This partnership enables municipalities and utilities to implement essential water system upgrades without upfront capital burdens, accelerating much-needed improvements.
Botanical Water Technologies exists to create and provide clean drinking water, positively impacting millions of the world’s most vulnerable people.
BWT has developed a technology to produce potable water from the waste streams of sugar mills, fruit and vegetable processing, creating a sustainable new source of drinking water, which is used for the company’s own retail brand, AquaBotanical Water.
AquaBotanical Water is distributed for retail, industrial usage (e.g., beverage companies) as well as social and environmental impact projects.
This innovative technology addresses water scarcity by capturing water that would otherwise be discarded, aligning with Sciens’ focus on transformative solutions in the water sector.
CROM is a leading designer, manufacturer, and installer of water storage facilities and solutions, with the largest installed base of pre-stressed concrete tanks in the U.S., and a leading provider of services for the restoration and maintenance of essential water infrastructure.
The company is headquartered in Gainesville, FL with four regional offices and has been trusted as an experienced and reliable resource since its founding in 1953.
Since Sciens acquired CROM, its servicing business grew three-fold, backed by a strategic plan investing in its business development capabilities and operating systems. During Sciens’ ownership, CROM was also able to improve operational efficiency and profitability across its entire business range, as well as launching a new offering of watertight tensioned straight wall tanks, CROM2.
These initiatives enabled CROM to enhance its business model by diversifying and strengthening its offerings, while capitalizing on the heavy demand for water infrastructure restoration and maintenance services. During Sciens Water’s ownership period, CROM built and restored infrastructure improving water and sanitation for 7.2mm people across the southeastern U.S.
Sciens Water Digital Holdings
Sciens Water Digital Holdings is a leading provider of SaaS-based remote SCADA solutions that offer complete end-to-end asset monitoring and control solutions, utilizing satellite, cellular, and Ethernet communications, enabling utilities to supervise critical infrastructure in real time.
Under Sciens’ ownership, the business scaled significantly, expanded margins and invested in product innovation, rolling out new products.
The portfolio reflects Sciens Water’s top-level companies and their significant subsidiaries. Non-material investments and individual projects are not shown.
